Corfu is one of a group of Islands in the Ionian sea and is the nearest and most accessible Greek island when travelling from UK. UK flights to Corfu are less than three hours in duration which is manageable, even if travelling with a young family. 2016 has seen a marked increase in the number of direct flights to the island, with the possibility of travelling from many regional airports in addition to London. London Gatwick now operates two flights a day, each day of the week.
Traditionally, the tourist season is from May to October and this has been driven by the availability of direct flights rather than the weather. More recently, some airlines have begun to offer flights from the end of March until the middle of November. Visiting the island early or late in the season can be very rewarding. Temperatures are cooler, making walking or cycling an attractive proposition. The roads, beaches and tavernas are quieter, although some tavernas in the resorts may not be open.
